Intelligent Design – Unlocking the Mystery of Life

I have ignored (purposefully) the whole debate regarding evolution vs creationism. I believe in God, more specifically in Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit and God the Father just for more simple reasons and personal experience. Yet in a recent set of presentations, I have been absolutely intrigued by the massive amount of evidence that exists in what is now termed “Intelligent Design” which is the idea that some Intelligent being created the building blocks of life (see Genesis chapter 1 :)).

Who made all of this?

I enjoy science to a degree, just like I enjoy other complex and challenging studies like software design. After examining Amazing creatures that defy Evolution (which seems to be in many public libraies for viewing) Part I, II and III, I was amazed at the complexities that exist in the natural world. In the same way that I know how complex it is to solve a particular feature request in software, and how careful planning and design work are required to solve the problem or version 2 won’t have any customer to ship the product to, in the same way life itself requires irreversibly complex systems advancing and these system had to have information to come into existance. Computer hardware is absolutely useless with the “information” we call software, whether it be embedded or downloaded. To suggest a complex system like sourceforge.net or ebay.com was formed by natural selection of bits and pieces of software from all over the internet without an intellegent design is denying the truth and looking for a way out of the argument.

The presentation (also freely available from the public library) called “Unlocking the Mystery of Life – Intellegent Design” is a detailed look at the problem of natural selection. The basic fundamental of advancement in anything in the universe rely’s on truth. That is why we had the dark ages and not a lot of advancement took place. Real advancement is often hindered even in software design because a deadline becomes a higher priority than the truth (perhaps the performance or functionality of an application or subsystem has serious flaws). Truth is suppressed and true advancement becomes less of a reality.

I believe the stagnation of innovation is partly due to blatant rejection of such truth in many aspects of life. We should be so much further in the software industry than we are, yet because people keep unproved theory as fact in the design process, innovation suffers. Perhaps the reality of the following passage is simply “natural selection” taking place :)?

1 Corinthians 1:25-29 [This is] because the foolish thing [that has its source in] God is wiser than men, and the weak thing [that springs] from God is stronger than men. For [simply] consider your own call, brethren; not many [of you were considered to be] wise according to human estimates {and} standards, not many influential {and} powerful, not many of high {and} noble birth. [No] for God selected (deliberately chose) what in the world is foolish to put the wise to shame, and what the world calls weak to put the strong to shame. And God also selected (deliberately chose) what in the world is lowborn {and} insignificant and branded {and} treated with contempt, even the things that are nothing, that He might depose {and} bring to nothing the things that are, So that no mortal man should [have pretense for glorying and] boast in the presence of God.

Amen.

One Response to Intelligent Design – Unlocking the Mystery of Life

  1. Ahh… and what a rich debate this is.

I am a Nuclear Engineer, and my secular coworkers are not moved by flannel-graph stories of a naked German-looking couple… but I can engage them using SCIENCE – which is the truth of God’s creation all around us, revealed through the scientific method.

I cannot stress enough the wealth of apologetic goodness that I get from a scientific perspective at Reasons to Believe (reasons.org) and from a cultural perspective from Ravi Zacharias’ ministries.
